Every Copart purchase also adds a gate fee of about $95, an environmental fee of about $10, and a title mail fee of about $20.

Why Copart fees surprise first-time buyers
Copart's fee schedule is tiered, so the fees do not scale smoothly with your bid. A $400 car and a $900 car can carry very different fee percentages, and on cheap cars the fixed fees — gate, environmental, title — can add up to half the hammer price again.
Fees also depend on how you pay and how you bid. Unsecured payment methods carry higher buyer fees than secured funds, bidding online adds a virtual bid fee that bidding from a kiosk avoids, and licensed business buyers are on a different schedule than public bidders entirely.

- What fees does Copart charge on top of the winning bid?
- Public buyers typically pay a tiered buyer fee based on the sale price, a virtual bid fee if the winning bid was placed online, a gate fee for yard handling, a small environmental fee, and a title mail fee. Storage charges apply if you do not pick the vehicle up within the free window, and your state may collect sales tax.
- Are Copart fees the same at every location?
- No. The published schedule is national, but some locations and sale types carry different charges, and taxes vary by state. Treat any calculator — including this one — as an estimate and check the fee breakdown Copart shows on the lot page before you bid.
- How can I reduce Copart fees?
- Pay with secured funds rather than a card, use kiosk pre-bidding where available to avoid the virtual bid fee, and pick the vehicle up inside the free storage window. On low-value cars, remember that fixed fees make cheap vehicles proportionally the most expensive to buy.
